What a busy week!
Monday and Tuesday the classes visited Dr. Claire and the staff at the Souris Dental Center. Kathy showed us what the dental assistants look like when we get our teeth cleaned- a mask, orange glasses and gloves. We discussed how these items protect her from our germs and protect us from her germs. Everyone got to have a ride in the dentist's chair which went up, laid back and down. We looked at and tried out some of the tools such as the 'water squirter', 'air squirter', and the tiny mirror for seeing inside our mouths. We learned that we have 10 teeth on the top and 10 teeth on the bottom. When we returned to the classroom we made up a little song Miss Frieze: "How many teeth do you have? Children: "Ten on the top, and ten on the bottom". Teehee- so simple but it helped them remember. On Monday we got to watch Dr.Claire clean someone's teeth. It was exciting to watch and see that it is not scary- it is fun!! Everyone received a bag of goodies from Dr.Claire's officer including a toothbrush, floss, a picture for coloring and a sticker. What an exciting trip!
Wednesday and Thursday classes went skating at the Souris Arena. For some of the children it was their first time on skates- everyone did very well. The children with more skating experience were happy to help out the others and give them tips on how to go faster! We played Simon Says, What Time Is It Mr. Wolf and The Hokey Pokey to practice our balance on the ice. The children however preferred to just skate around and play in small groups.
I would like to extend a great big thank you to the parents who were able to come out and help tie skates and also help on the ice. It was wonderful to see such a great turn out, I appreciate the help very much considering there were many children needing assistance on the ice.
