The quarrelsome queen gave us some trouble this week. We talked about how she always needs her umbrella behind her when she is in words. The children decided it was silly that she ALWAYS needed her umbrella, but I said that's just how it goes!! Q and U always need to be together. The sound they make is like kw, which the children decided was TWO sounds K and w, so then it made sense to them that we needed two letters!
I hope to spend some more time on this letter next week to clarify their questions and quarrels!
Monday and Tuesday we talked more about electricity. The children are still very interested in how it works and why electricity will travel through metal but not rubber. I hope to find some experiments about this for next week.
Tuesday Miss Frieze had to leave due to being ill. Our great friend Val from the daycare came to cover for Miss Frieze. The children read the story Miss Bindergarten Stays Home from Kindergarten by Joseph Slate. They made some beautiful cards for me which are displayed in the classroom now.
Wednesday and Thursday we were back and busy with our St.Patrick's Day Parties. The children baked cookies, played "hide the leprechaun's gold". We learned a fun song about a Leprechaun; (to the tune of "I'm a Little Teapot) I'm a little leprechaun, quick as can be, I hide my gold under a tree, If you see a rainbow you may find, all the gold I have left behind. We looked at our world map to see where Ireland was and created beautiful rainbows while practicing our cutting skills and fine motor development.
REMINDER: There is NO NURSERY SCHOOL over spring break week: March 26th to 30th.
Have a wonderful and safe St.Patrick's Day weekend!
See you next week.
