What an electrifying week!! :)
Electricity was our topic!
Books: First science Electricity by Mari Schuh, The Magic School Bus and the Electric Field Trip by Joanna Cole & Bruce Degen, and How Things Work (Two-Can First Encyclopedia).
Our discussion included electrical safety, how electricity gets to our homes and what is electricity. We created a poster board with the alphabet and matching electrical words. Everyone is looking forward to our visit to the Hydro office where we will learn more about safety and equipment used by Manitoba Hydro.
To help us understand how electricity moves through metal wires we played an "electric current" game. It involved the children standing in a line and passing a "current" through them by squeezing each others hand. When the "current" reached the end the last person would jump to show how it creates energy. Miss Frieze plugged classroom items into the electrical socket to show us how they need electricity to work.
The Monday classes finally got to visit the fire hall. We got to see the big red fire truck, our favorite part was when fire fighter Brett tried on all his gear because he looked funny. We talked about how to stay safe if there is a fire and how to prevent fires.
The letterland character we learned about this week was Peter Puppy. He loves playing at the park with his pals.
Next week we will continue with this topic as well as have our St.Patrick's Day parties on Wednesday and Thursday. Remember to wear something green!
Have a great weekend!
