Good morning!
This week we started talking about things we enjoy doing in Souris. Some things mentioned by the children were the park, camping, the pool, getting the mail, grocery shopping, playing and school. "Anything with my family is fun" said one of the children. We talked about the fall season arriving and what they think might happen.
Stories we read are:
The Leaves are Falling One by One- By Steve Metzger. This book is read or sung to the tune of "the ants go marching one by one" and it talks about the fall season.
Autumn's First Leaf- by Steve Metzger. This is a story about a leaf named Pointy and his two friends. Pointy wakes up one day to find that he is changing color from green to gold. As the days go on he turns more and more gold. His friends are jealous of the attention he is getting, but the leaves are still friends. Soon all the leaves are changing colors.
After reading these stories we went on an adventure outside to look for leaves. We found crunchy ones, colorful ones, brown ones, spotted ones. The children were very excited about all the leaves on the ground. We used the leaves to make a fall picture.
During the next classes we discussed our families and what we might be doing for Thanksgiving. We made a picture of a turkey- though some kids decided it didn't look like a turkey so it was just a picture. They traced their own hands and used the glue and supplies to decorate them.
The story we read was called Today I Fell Silly & Other Moods That Make My Day by Jamie Lee Curtis. The book discusses various moods and we took time to talk about how we can act when we feel certain ways. This is a GREAT book for all children. The rhymes and creative pictures keep the children interested and it reminds them that it is okay to feel different ways and to ask for him in dealing with them.
We have been singing a new song "The Super Kid Song", here are the lyrics:
I may never fly like Superman, flex like Batman, climb like Spiderman.
Inspector Gadget is no match for who I am, because I'm the BEST SUPER KID!
I will be placing a strong focus in class on the children printing their names. They will each have a notebook to do this each day they come to class. I will ask that they attempt to write their name or copy the letters I write for them as best they can. Their notebook will be like a journal of their progress through the year!
Oh yes, CLEVER CAT. I introduced the children to the letter C which is represented by Clever Cat. The work pages the children were given gave them the opportunity to color words that begin with C and practice making the letter C. I will attach a youtube video of the song below (I apologize that it is a bit difficult to understand).
Have a great weekend and a happy, safe Thanksgiving. I look forward to seeing everyone next week.
