Another week has come and gone. The children enjoyed visiting the library for story time this week and learning all about the letter A. Annie Apple makes an 'a' sound and has a special song to help us remember. We read about the ants in Max's pants then made our own letter A ants (some of us chose not to add ant legs which was fine as well).
We discussed our feelings and emotions. The children and I discussed all kinds of feelings when we read "Happy and Sad, Grouchy and Glad" and "Today I Feel Silly". "If you're happy and you know it" was an obvious song for us to sing this week. Sometimes we changed up the words to suit how we were feeling. Each day we took note of how everyone was feeling and now we have a "feeling tracker" chart to reflect our findings.
There has been more and more interest about our stick bug pets so we spent some time discussing them and building our own stick bug to take home. We currently have 3 stick bugs in our classroom which need to be fed lettuce and watered every couple of days. They have grown quite a bit since our first day of school.
Have you noticed our hanging planets?? The children sure have. It seems to be at snack time when the classroom slows down that questions begin to be asked about the planets. "Why is Pluto so far away? What if the sun stopped shining? Why does Saturn have rings?" Questions like these tell me that the children are interested and ready to take on a unit about the planets. Watch for this work coming soon.
Below are the books we read this week about feelings and ABC's. Songs we continue to sing are "The Continents", "O Canada" and the Superman song. Here are the lyrics:
I may never fly like superman, flex like batman, climb like Spiderman.
Inspector Gadget is no match for who I am, because I'm the best SUPERKID!
