Edit | Settings | DeleteWow! I can't believe it is the end of September already! What a great month. I hope the children are enjoying Nursery School as much as I am.
The field trips this week went great. Thank you to the parents who came out to help! The children learned many fascinating things about recycling, including:
They recycle 2 litre pop bottles to make threads which are used in T-Shirts.
You do not have to remove labels from cans and bottles because the products are burned and the paper burns off.
There is a difference between cardboard (bumpy/has lines) and box-board (used for drink cans, smooth).
The yogurt containers we recycle are melted and turned into garbage bins and recycling boxes.
The large milk containers are shredded down and used for coat lining and inside stuffed animals.
If you do not wash out the containers you recycle, they have to throw them in the garbage.
We have been reading the following books:
The OK Book By Amy Krouse Rosenthal & Tom Lichtenheld- this book is a great motivator for children. It talks about a child attempting different things and doing "OK" at it, and how much fun they have while trying. We followed the story by talking about things we are great at and things we want to be great at when we grow up.
Just So Thankful By Mercer Mayer- This book talks about Little Critter's jealousy of his friend's toys, big house and pool. At the end of the book Little Critter realizes that although he doesn't have all the toys he wants, he has a family who loves him very much, and for that he is thankful.
We talked about the letter B this week and discussed it's sound and words that begin with the letter B.
Bouncy Ben is the character for B in our Letterland book.
NOTE TO PARENTS: There will be a photo session held at the Souris School on Friday, October 7th at 11:45 a.m. for individual Nursery pictures to be done. Please email me or sign up at the classroom to let me know if you will be bringing your child for pictures that day.
I can't wait to see what wonderful things we do next week! See you soon.
