Below you will see pictures of what we have been doing this week at Nursery School to prepare for our police station visit.
We opened a show store which someone stole shoes from so the children and I started an investigation to find the missing shoes. We looked for fingerprints and asked questions to everyone in the classroom. We wrote up a description of the missing shoes and made pictures too! This was a fun game- especially when we did find the shoes- under Miss Frieze's desk!!!!!!
Out book "I Want to Be a Police Officer" explained many of the important jobs police officers do. It also acted as a foundation for learning and gave us questions to ask on our visit.
Red Light Green Light was a great game to play this week. Everyone who wanted a turn got to be a traffic officer to direct the classroom cars at the stop light.
We also sang a little traffic light song (to the tune of twinkle twinkle little star):
Twinkle, twinkle traffic light
shining on the corner bright.
Red means STOP
Green means GO
Yellow means you take it SLOW.
Twinkle, twinkle traffic light
shining on the corner bright.
Next we played "Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar". Children covered their eyes while I hid a cookie behind one of them. We took turns guessing who had the cookie- we called in investigating just like police do.
When we were talking about fingerprints we used ink pads to press our own fingerprints onto paper strips and practiced writing our names. We used magnifying glasses to look at our prints and discussed the differences we could see. Everyone had something different on their print- which we soon learned was really cool because no two persons have the same fingerprint.
This has been a great week full of learning and fun. I am excited to see what next week will bring.
