The letter O was a little more tricky than we thought it would be for a show and share letter. But, it sure did get us thinking!! We had plenty of owls, octopus, and orange items. Also, there was an Ovechkin stick, a ocean sound and some old toys!! Great work everyone. Please click on the photos to se

We would like to thank Mr. Mike Acquisto for coming into our classroom this Monday as our guest reader to read us a few of his favorite stories. We got to hear about MUNCH- a little pink Monster that protected his home from another monster. We also learned about noisy Mortimer who sang "Clang clang rattle bing bang, gonna make my noise all day!"
It is always great to have such exciting guest readers. The children were also very excited to ask questions about his job as a police officer. Thank you again Mike, we look forward to having you again. I wonder who our guest reader will be next month... What an exciting adventure we had with Nurse Bev this week. Hand washing has never been so exciting!! Did you know that many major colds and flus can be prevented by regular hand washing and household disinfecting. The children practiced a washing routine including "palms round and round, top hands up and down/up and down, tickle tickle with our nails and up and down the wrists.
When we applied the secret glow in the dark lotion to find the bugs on our hands we found a LOT of bugs in the webs of our hands, under our nails and on our wrists. When we touched the door handles or each other we got to see how the germs were passed on to others or objects. Looking at these bugs in the dark helped us know where to scrub more with the soap and WARM water. After we washed we were able to see spots we missed on our hands and and try again in the sink. Goodbye Goodbye germs. We watched them flow down down down the sink. After thoroughly drying our hands and arms we put the paper towel in the garbage where no one else would need to touch our germs. Homework for the children consisted of 2 things: a) Teach someone in your family about how to properly wash your hands and b) help Mom or Dad wash your doorknobs at home. We have been spending a lot of time talking about how to keep our teeth healthy. With visits to the dental office, books, activities and a dental office center the children have been exploring their teeth inside and out. Did you know that a child has 10 teeth on the top and 10 teeth on the bottom (unless the tooth fairy took one, then you have 9)!!! Here are some of the mouths we made this week. Th
Our Valentine's Day parties were so exciting! The balloons and streamers were a nice addition to our regular classroom atmosphere. Some of us decorated cookies brought in from Nash and Jade, some of us baked & delivered cupcakes, and some of us ran in the gymnasium. ALL OF US had a great time dancing the freeze dance and playing musical chairs. We read a Valentine story about friendship and another about a secret friendship Valentine. Emma and Stacey joined us for the fun too! The children were excited to open their Valentine cards from all their friends. There were some very creative ideas and gifts! Happy Valentine's Day everyone!! Spread the Love today and every day!!!! Everyone got to have a dentist office experience including waiting in the waiting room, meeting the nurses, wearing a bib & glasses, and most exciting of all RIDING IN THE CHAIR. Kathy counted all of our teeth and talked to us about cleaning our teeth properly- brushing and flossing in the morning and at bedtime- or MORE.
We learned that the dental assistants and the dentist wear a mask and glasses to protect themselves from our germs. We were not scared of the outfits, some of us giggled. Thank you to the dental office for accommodating our large group and to the parent helpers who were available to come along. Thank you Nash & Jade for bringing in baby Pumpkin for a visit. She was adorable to play with. Her fur is soft, she is a great jumper and it is funny how she likes to nibble on hair. W
Did you know that on February 2nd the groundhog did NOT see his shadow. This means that spring is on the way!! The children were very excited to make their very own groundhogs and find their shadows in front of the projector. When we moved back and forth from the light our shadow would grow and shrink on the door. Some of us had time to trace our own shadow and make it more colorful by coloring and decorating. We can't wait for a sunny day when we can go outside and find our shadows in the sunlight.
This is a great guessing game to play with a wide age range of children. The Nursery School children really enjoyed trying to figure out which animal picture was on their head. **We reviewed all the cards we were using before we played to help give them an idea of what they may be. Some of the questions they used to figure out their animal were:
-Where do I live? - What color am I? - What do I sound like? - Do I have legs? wings? fur? feathers? - What do I |
