Hi Parents!!I hope everyone has been enjoying the warm weather we have had. Finally we had nice weather for our field trips. Monday and Tuesday we visited the Hydro station. "Hydro man Dean" gave us a tour of their office, the garage, the 'stores' and his truck. The best part of the trip was watching Dean put on his spurs and climb up the hydro pole outside of the office. He could hook his feet in and lean all over while his safety belt kept him safe. The children were very interested in what Dean was explaining to us. He talked about how we can keep ourselves safe around electricity and why. He confirmed some of the information we were learning in class about electricity such as; electric current flow easily through copper wires, but does not flow through rubber, every house has a hydro meter (homework was to find your hydro meter and tell us where it was), and electricity is very helpful but can be very dangerous. What a wonderful trip we all had. Thank you to the parent volunteers who were able to join us.
Wednesday and Thursday we talked more about the letter Q, Quarrelsome Queen and the sounds they make. We looked at some wonderful show and share items: a duck that QUACKS, a dog that was QUICK, a doll was QUIET, a loud truck was the opposite of QUIET, a QUEEN puzzle, a miniature QUEEN, a QUESTION mark, and a computer with the letter Q on one of the buttons.
We also talked about Spring and what we will see/experience in the spring. We read two books about spring including Spring Has Spring (Bear in the big blue house) by Kiki Thorpe and Mouse's First Spring by Lauren Thompson. These were the last classes before spring break, I will see everyone again in April.
