This week we welcomed Bill Strath from the Royal Canadian Legion into our classroom for a special Remembrance Day presentation on Monday and Tuesday morning. The children had many questions about his uniform and why poppies are so special. We learned that poppies grew where soldiers had died in the war and that on Remembrance Day we take time to remember the soldiers who protected our country by going to war. We also made a special poppy using pre-cut pieces.
The book we read is "A Poppy Is to Remember" written by Heather Patterson and Ron Lightburn. It is a simple story for children about remembrance day and the poppy. It also includes a copy of the poem "In Flander's Fields" written by John McCrae.
The classes on Wednesday had an opportunity to play group games like duck, duck, goose,; simon says; red light green light and What time is it Mr. Wolf. The afternoon class went outside and played these games and the morning class helped me clear the classroom to make room for the games.
Due to an in-service day at the school the Nursery School class for Thursday, November 10th was moved to Friday, November 18th at the regular class-time 9:00 to 11:30. Please let Miss Frieze know if your child is unable to attend the make-up day.
Next week we will be learning about the letter Ff and talking more about our pets. Please let me know if your child has a pet he/she would like to bring to show the class and we can make an arrangement to do so.
Enjoy your long weekend.
